One Thing You Can Do To Overcome Overwhelm, Stress and Anxiety

It's my first post of 2020, so "Happy New Year!"

I hope you had an amazing holiday season, and you’re feeling refreshed, renewed and excited as we enter a brand-new year!

And not just a new year, but also a BRAND-NEW DECADE!

I’m going to be talking a LOT about motivation and goal-setting this month … but I want to mention something really important first, in this blog post.

Do you ever set goals and then feel overwhelmed by them?

For example, do you wonder what in the world you were thinking of when you set them… or they just seem too big, or too overwhelming … or maybe you wonder where to start?

These are mind games that a LOT of us play on ourselves … and it actually can be a type of anxiety!

The terrible thing about it is that it can make you want to quit before you even begin.

I have a suggestion for you, something that’s even MORE important than having a plan to reach your goals.

It’s actually the most IMPORTANT thing.

It’s TAKING ACTION.

ACTION ALLEVIATES ANXIETY.

Nothing beats anxiety better … and shuts down mind games faster … than ACTION.

Just DO ONE THING to move yourself forward. Even if you’re not sure exactly what you should do.

Don’t overthink it. Just DO it.

Taking action will help give everything clarity. It’s so liberating.

You don’t have to wait until you find the perfect plan, or get advice from others, or spend time debating all the angles and options.

And you don’t have to buy the perfect piece of equipment before you can start.

You just have to take ONE SIMPLE ACTION.

Here’s an example. Let’s say you want to start working out. Instead of coming up with a 10-point plan, looking up info on the internet, or buying supplements, let’s say instead, you simply lace up your sneakers and go for a brisk walk. Or do a few exercises at night while you watch TV.

You can get more tactical and focused later. Just do something NOW.

Or if you want to clean up your nutrition, you can swap your next snack for something healthy, like a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts. You don’t need to wait till next weekend to come up with the perfect meal plan.

The most important thing is that you do SOMETHING.

And when you’re done, you will have replaced that anxiety with a tremendous feeling of accomplishment!

As a bonus, you’ll find that while those mind games might not have completely gone away, they sure are a lot less noisy!

That’s a good goal in and of itself for this year, isn’t it? And for the whole decade, for that matter!

So always remember this: Action alleviates anxiety.
